I normally don’t ape other people’s blog posts, but for those in DC who are not familiar with the fabulous blog Things That Inspire, authored by an Atlanta resident with family ties to DC, you should read this post Holly just put up about the architecture of the National Cathedral School. As a DC native who went to private school growing up, NCS was always just another soccer team we played against. I didn’t ever really think about the school’s architectural pedigree. But now Holly has brought it to wonderful light:
It was designed by the British architect Robert Gibson, circa 1899-1900. Apparently, he was known for his gothic style and designed a number of buildings for Catholic churches. Holly has some wonderful images of the relief details on the sides of NCS buildings — I urge you to go check them out!
It definitely takes someone from out of town to point out the beauty of what’s been under your nose for so long.
