Designer Skip Sroka’s DC Home, For Sale

I can’t belive Skip Sroka is selling his home in DC’s Phillips Park, but I can totally understand why. I will just miss going there each year to his and John Kammeier’s famous Christmas parties! But since John works full time in New York, it makes sense that they’re looking to downsize to a condo in DC.

It’s always sad to me when I see real-estate pictures of multi-million dollar homes that make it clear its owners didn’t invest in good interior design. So whoever’s ready to spend nearly $5 million on a home, they will see that this one, listed by TTR Sotheby’s, has been gloriously loved.

I love how you step up into the foyer—seeing it all slightly above you as you enter makes it seem so grand. And just behind the mirrored panel at the right is this bar, which I know well from Skip and John’s parties!

My favorite part of the house is the glorious breakfast area. I adore that there’s an armchair and ottoman there, much better to read the paper:

Walk down the hallway that leads from the kitchen to the left, and you get to this incredible pantry. I have pantry envy.

The living areas are wide and gracious from inside out, and no wonder, because Skip had a hand in designing it with architect Ann Decker.

The lovely proportions continue upstairs. The wide corridors feel so good.

The fireplace in the master bedroom is tiled up to the ceiling—a treatment you hardly ever see.

And the closet!

The guest rooms get just as much decorative attention:

Whoever buys this house are going to be quite lucky—they won’t have to do a thing anywhere besides moving in. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to seeing what Skip does at his and John’s next home.

  1. thank you for another great post Jennifer; I am delighted to see that Skip – with all the resources he has available to him – still has our Greek Key coffee table front and center in his living room after 25 years! thank you Skip !
