Talk: The Architecture of Healing

September 18 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

$12 - $20

What do contemporary mental healthcare facilities have in common with the approaches of the past? Learn from Eric Kern, principal and senior project director at EYP, Samira Pasha, medical planner, and Marc Shaw, architect at Marc Shaw, Architect, LLC, as they discuss the incorporation of evidence-based design principals in the role of mental health treatment today. This panel will explore elements of Dr. Thomas Story Kirkbride’s 19th-century asylum prototype, which supported patient treatment with agrarian settings, pleasant views from indoors, and an abundance of daylight and natural ventilation. 1.5 LU HSW (AIA)
