Guest Post: Tracy Morris’ Bathroom Facelift

I’ve got bathrooms on the brain right now as our powder room is taking shape — I’m hoping it will all be done within the next week or so. What I’m realizing is that new fixtures, wall surfaces, and lighting can literally transform a space that felt like a prison cell into a glorious sanctuary.

DC designer Tracy Morris recently achieved the same effect for a client in Logan Circle, and the results are stunning. I’ve asked her to share her thoughts about this drop-dead before-and-after (which is really only skin-deep!). Here’s her account.

With this project, the client wanted to give the bathroom a complete facelift without actually changing the floor plan or incorporating any major new construction.

They were sick of the dark space, and wanted something fresh, classic, and modern. So we re-faced EVERYTHING!

The window in this space was previously constructed with the very-80s 8×8 glass blocks. Aside from being out of date, they didn’t let much light in.

We decided that the best way to replace them would be with a frosted glass window. The shower dimensions remained the same, but everything else came out:

We also replaced the vanity, moving the toilet over to make room for double sinks:

Another challenge was finding brushed-brass fixtures for the shower that matched those on the vanity. One would think finding brushed brass to be an easy task, but this particular finish was nowhere to be found. We ended up having Newport Brass create the fixtures in one of their custom finishes. They turned out AWESOME!
